It’s unfortunate that I’m outside of the loop when it comes to the black students at my school. I have a lot of knowledge and experience and resources they could use and I’m sure would like to hear.
But I always felt like they are so judgmental.
I don’t know.
This is not even just the black people at my college. It’s been at school and church and in other groups since forever.
This is strange coming from me. I’m so black I can’t handle myself sometimes.
But I am normally awkward, yet even more so around black people. I could try to seek them out, but they always have an extremely tight knit clique.
And I don’t see myself penetrating it because they do not seem very accepting.
It’s like I’m an ethnographer.
I don’t talk like them, I don’t act like them, and it just doesn’t work. It’s not even that they have a certain way they “talk” or “act.”
It’s not that they shun me or anything either. I think they have a collective feeling that I don’t care to talk to them?
But I don’t think it should be different for black folk than other races. Other people talk to me and accept me into their clique-thing.
Not that I’m unhappy. :) I like my friends and I love being black. I don’t think I’m missing a lot, but it’s something I’ve noticed.
Oh girl. You are not alone. It’s always been like that for me too. :/
